Last week I got the pleasure to see a shuttle launch. The Kennedy Space Center is on the same island that I live on so it was pretty convenient for me to go watch. I must admit although I was thankful for a once in a lifetime experience I must say I thought it was a little overrated. I know I know some of you are gasping in shock and wondering how I could possibly feel that way, but I do. So I am very sorry to those of you who are upset :) Anyways it was cool and here are some pictures I took from the launch.

Ok so yesterday wasn’t my day. First, the night before I had some major indigestion. I’m figuring it was either the chili I had for dinner or Darrell constant worry that something is going to give him indigestion. Well anyways I woke up pretty nautious and really didn’t want to go to my internship. But I went. The day was pretty slow until lunch. And thats where it went to Hell! As the other interns and I were about to go to lunch I was carrying a can of clan chowder soup for one of them. I needed to make a quick stop over to my desk to grab my shades for the bright, warm Florida sun, and when I went to pick up the soup the lid came off and the soup fell on my desk splattering all over my beautiful, expensive laptop! Oh I wanted to die! It was a horrific moment. All the interns ran to my aid and helped me fix the catastrophe. THANK THE LORD the computer was not ruined. It cleaned up amazingly. I am so thankful and grateful that everything cleaned up fine. The day did get better. I got my first photography project for the magazine. I was super excited. Today I shot a Bible ad, I think it went pretty good. So yesterday was a challenge, and I thank God for getting through it.

Darrell and Mexican Food February 3, 2008

So I found out from Becky the other day that Darrell hated Mexican food. I was in shock I never knew there could be a single soul in the whole world that didn’t like Mexican Food. Apparently he has had a couple bad experiences like we all have had. His first encounter was with hard shelled tacos. He didn’t like that they crumbled everywhere. So when he and his family went to a Mexican food restaurant he didn’t want Mexican food so he ordered chili. Now clearly you can’t order chili from a Mexican restaurant. So naturally he didn’t like the chili. So he added that to the small list of reasons why he didn’t like Mexican food. So I had to do something about that. So I pulled up my sleeves and first made some home-made salsa. When he saw me burning the tomatoes he looked at me very strangely. But I told him to trust me. So he waited very patiently. When it was done he approved. Good I got a start on his conversion. So I made them enchiladas, rice and beans. He wasn’t sure what he was eating. So we explained what an enchilada was. So by the end of the meal I asked him, “So do you still hate Mexican food?” and he replied “only some, but this I like.” Success. I didn’t feel he had given Mexican food a fighting chance. I owe part of the glory to my mom who taught me to make this food.

Ok so today I not only picked some Florida oranges but I learned all about the man who started Tropicana orange juice. Exciting! Darrell and I drove over to Lin’s orange groves to pick some oranges for some Chinese men who were living on a boat docked here in Florida. Lin is a cute old man with an infectious laugh. He loves the Lord and is so excited when he gets the opportunity to serve. Now I have never actually gone orange picking. I have picked blueberries, blackberries, and peaches, but never oranges. It’s not easy! Those suckers hold onto that tree tight. Darrell though he’s a stud he jumped up on that ladder and picked away. My job was just to run around and pick up the ones he dropped down. I had to watch out for the orange grenades flying towards my head. They were some big oranges. I picked up one that was the perfect softball size, and it brought back wonderful memories. Before throwing it into the bucket, I cocked my arm back and motioned with it as though I was back on the dirt softball field throwing out a player at third base. Man I miss it. Anywho, after picking about four good sized buckets we were done. We divvied up 23 bags with 8 oranges in each for the 23 Chinese men Darrell would visit with later. We bid our goodbyes to Lin and told him we would be back next Saturday to pick some more for the church. Next time I think I will take my camera. It’s true by the way that Florida has the best, juiciest oranges. The orange groves here are too like Redlands are beginning to be chopped down for the next house or office space. It’s such a shame.

Relevant Magazine January 31, 2008

I started my internship yesterday. Relevant magazine is a pretty cool place to be. Everyone is super cool and laid back. After getting a tour of the place they put me right to work. I started by creating a story header for one of the online stories. It was a little nerve racking since this isn’t the kind of stuff I am used to doing. This is Jeff’s kind of stuff. Thanks to the wonderful world of technology I was able to get help from Jeff through instant messaging. He was able to give me good tips and ideas for the design. You may think I was cheating or had an unfair advantage but it sure did work for the time being :) Anywho I was really excited to see it on the home page of the magazine’s website. I felt like I accomplished something great when maybe in fact its not all that big of a deal.

I am off today. I think I will drive around town in search of a part-time job. Well the weather here is wonderful. Today its going to be 80 degrees. I’m sorry for all you over there in California where it is a cool 60 degrees. Don’t be jealous. Did I also mention I live less than 10 minutes from the beach? Sorry I don’t mean to brag. I am just excited that there is something for me to do. I miss everyone.

Packing to go to Florida             ca-to-fl-15.jpg              ca-to-fl-13.jpg                   ca-to-fl-16.jpg

Well I finally got here safe! Jeff and I had a fun, memorable drive down interstate 10. For sure the first part of the trip was the hardest. For one I had to say bye for two months to my loved ones. I will dearly miss hanging out on the couch with my two pals Jenny and BeBe. It took Jeff and I 30 long hours to get to Houston Texas. We had to pull into a rest area to crash out for a couple hours. Unfortunately it took me another 3 hours practically to wake up. In the midst of my deliriousness, I decided for some reason to take a video of Jeff driving while we were waiting for the sun to come up at 7am. So unfortunately there is a very embarrassing video of me talking extremely deliriously. Unfortunately some of you have already seen the video! Oh well thats part of the whole experience right? After spending a full day with Jeff’s wonderful energetic family we head off for round two of the road trip. It was another long, tiring drive to Florida. But we made it! And no I did not kill Jeff for any of you doubters (PATRICK!!!) I am staying with Darrell and Becky Welling. They are the parents of my 5th and 6th grade elementary teacher way back when. They are the sweetest people in the world. So do not worry I am going to be taken care of. You all will be proud last night Darrell made a green bean soup and I had two bowls! Ya you heard me right two bowls! So see I am already changing bad habits into to good ones :) They have a dog ironically named BeBe. What are the chances!? She is a spunky little thing like my dog. She likes to chew on socks where my BeBe prefers underwear. I am glad there is a furry little animal in the house. I very much miss my dog. Well I will write later about my first day at the internship.
