My Birthday

Well there may be some of you who read this and think to yourself, “Oh My Gosh thats right it was her birthday I totally forgot!” And to those I say its ok I understand that I don’t have a myspace to conveniently remind my friends when it is my birthday. Anywho, I am not upset, a little disappointed just to be honest. However, I am over it and am going on. Those who did remember were incredibly sweet and made me feel very special. I spent the whole day at work and everyone at the office sang Happy Birthday at a nice chinese bistro place. We were also recognizing interns, Adam and Jenny’s last day. So it was a bittersweet lunch. Darrell and Becky and their family were all waiting for me at their daughter’s house it was also their son-in-law’s bday as well. So we ate some cake and played a mean game of Mexican train. I received beautiful roses from my mom and a nice card and mula from my dad. I also got a package from Jeff and Jenny that had half eaten Peeps (apparently they ate half to “help”me whatever) and a shirt that Jeff picked out and a wedding magazine and some other odds and ends. I also got a package from Angela that had two shirts. So thank you everyone who made my day very special.

On the Hunt For Some Gators!

Ok so the other design interns and I decided that we couldn’t possibly leave Florida without seeing some gators. So we drove down with two other employees of Relevant, Theresa and Wes to Lake Jessup. This lake is right next to a little league park and a jungle gym where there are tons of kids. And sure enough we spotted like 6 or 7 gators! They were right there very close to easily attack an unexpecting human. It was very fun we were all very excited and satisfied to have spotted some gators. Afterwards we all decided that a Shamrock shake from McDonalds sounded so good and that is precisely what we did.

A Freak Sick Day

Early Wednesday morning when I was up getting ready for work a slew of freak occurrences happened to me. While I was brushing my teeth my eyes wouldn’t focus on anything and I got extremely dizzy and nauseous so I had to sit on the floor for a while trying to compose myself and then my ears plugged up and I couldn’t hear anything. Weird! After I decided the worst was over I contemplated staying home from work. Knowing the average normal person would decide to stay home if not feeling good I decided of course against that rational thought and decided to just “suck it up” and go to work. While I was trying to straighten my hair though my arms became incredibly weak and I could barely lift them to do my hair. And well if I cant’ do my hair then there was no way I was going anywhere! So that was the final straw that forced me to take the first “sick day” of my life. It was really weird. I felt guilty all day. However I was able to complete a design that I would have done while at work so thank goodness for technology that gave me the ability to contribute in the comfort of my home. All day I felt as though I was sitting on a boat. I couldn’t focus too well and everything in the morning felt like this weird blur like it hadn’t happened that day but on a different day. Needless to say I am back to normal I think it was just a really weird freak occurrence. It may have something to do with that bike ride I did a couple days prior but who knows. Of course Darrell blamed it on the fact that I don’t eat vegetables. But of course all you vegetable eating people think that everything is solved by eating vegetables! Well I am not a believer yet! They are still too gross to eat! Although while I have been here I have purchased all by myself carrots and cucumbers of course with a huge helping of ranch to mask the awful carrot taste. He He its a start right? Anyways all you need to know is that I am fine and dandy and didn’t die yet of the lack of vegetables.

Bike Ride

So I decided to venture out on a bike ride yesterday. I rode to Cocoa Beach which is about 10 miles from where I live. I was doing really good except for my aching butt! Those bike seats are incredibly uncomfortable. Mind you this seat had extra cushion and I don’t quite have a flat butt either. So by the time I got to the beach I was ready to give my buns a break from the torture. It was such a beautiful day to lay on the sands of Cocoa Beach. I just laid and relaxed in the warm Florida sun. Unfortunately my relaxation was interrupted by a lady smoking and a pathetic whining 9 year old who was screaming about a scratch on his hand and screaming at the top of his lungs “OW! IT’S SWELLING!!!” over and over again. Holy Moly someone smack the kid! Sorry just have this really annoyance for whiny boys. So after I relaxed for about an hour I decided that my butt should be ready for the ride back. Boy was I wrong. It felt bruised. I thought to myself how in the world am I going to ride for 10 miles back home in this much pain? And much too prideful to call Darrell to come pick me up I just sucked it up and started trudging along. Unfortunately also working against me was the evening coastal wind I had to ride into. Oi! Imitating the little train that could I kept thinking to myself “I think I can, I think I can” and when it came to riding over the Cocoa Beach bridge I really needed to motivate myself. So I made myself a promise that if I was able to get over the bridge I would treat myself and my sore buns to a smoothie. And well I did get over that hill and made it to “Tropical Smoothie” for a treat. That sure did help my moral and buns. After a quick drink and a chat with the ever handsome Jeff Schaefer I made my way back home. I made it back in one piece thank goodness! Also what is crazy is my dad rides his bike for 100 miles at a time! He must have buns of steel! Sheesh! I am totally impressed. Well I bet you all never knew that riding a bike could be so incredibly interesting. However involve me and you got yourself some kind of issue. I will give the bike another chance. Someone at work assured me that my buns will get used the bike seat so I will try it out again just as soon as my buns heal. Well now that I have referenced to my buns about a hundred times I will stop here.

In Loving Memory of Christina Little

At about 11am today Chris went to Heaven. Although a better place than here on earth, it is a sad day for her family and friends. Pleas keep Gary her husband, Amanda and Kayla her two daughters in constant prayer. They are an amazing strong family and need your continual prayers for them through this tough period in their lives. I am so very sad that I am almost 3,000 miles away and feel extremely hopeless to my beloved friend Amanda. Although I would love to fly out and be with her family through all of this $300 for a round trip ticket is nowhere feasible. So also pray that God will give me the wisdom and understanding to know how to give the best support I can possibly give from where I am now. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

Valentine’s Day

All though I am all the way in Florida and Jeff is all the way in California it was a very special “Love Day.” I woke him up before he went to work and we got to video chat for a little bit. Then throughout the day I received little surprises. First I received a package with all sorts of special goodies that were customized to me. Lots of sweatheart candies and skittles, Pez, a teddy bear, and a cd and of course a loving card. I was super excited! I decided to grab my camera and go to Jetty Park which is a pier on the beach. I strolled along the clear warm waters and just had a relaxing time. Unfortunately, the weather was a little on the chilly side so I couldn’t quite sun bathe like I had hoped to, but I know the opportunity will come. When I got home there was a nice sized 1-800-flowers box waiting for me on the doorstep! WOOHOO!!! I have never received flowers on V-Day before so I was super excited! They were from Jeff and my lil sis Jenny. Red, pink and white tulips my favorite! I was so excited. I really had a wonderful love day even if I wasn’t with the love of my life

Tornados in Florida?

Well yesterday was eventful. In the early afternoon Becky very calmly informed me that we were under a tornado watch. Well as you can imagine I was a bit alarmed and wanted to know what that meant. She assured me that it was only cautionary. Well about 5 miles east of us in Cocoa beach there was a tornado that pulled the roof off an apartment. So for the rest of the day until 11pm our whole county was under a tornado watch. I was a little nervous at first but figured hey it might be kind of fun to see a tornado! Well unfortunately and fortunately I was not able to site a tornado. Oh and apparently if you didn’t already know this bit of interesting information, Florida is the lightning capitol of the world! Who woulda thunk? Well all is well and I am safe and sound

Part 2 of Orange Picking

On Saturday Darrell and I went back to the orange groves to pick more oranges. This time there were about 20 other people. The purpose for this picking was for an organization called The House of Hope. They give food to low income families. Darrell got the honorary job of driving the lawnmower tractor and transporting the oranges back to the truck for loading. We all jumped on the back, but we soon jumped back off when we were being driven straight into to tree branches. Lin was running around making sure everyone was picking the way he had specifically instructed us to do. This older couple that seemed to be from NY because of their accents were nagging at eachother. And I was busy loading up the oranges Darrell was yanking off the trees. I decided to switch with an older lady with the job of climbing a ladder and picking the oranges high up a tree. Now I must admit I am a big chicken. It just doesn’t seem safe to be leaning on a ladder that high and the only support available are scrawny branches. Well anyways I did it for a while until Darrell wanted to take over. I was little hesitant, but he did such a fine job last time that I didn’t worry about it. However, I soon changed my mind when Darrell was climbing the ladder completely parallel to the tree. I kept telling him to please angle the ladder more. His response, “oh you PWs (powerful women) are all the same.” Well what was I to do with that? So I just held on to the ladder and hoped he wouldn’t fall. When I decided to go pick up some of the oranges that were piling up I heard a woman yell “Darrell!” When I turned and looked Darrell was grabbing onto the tree for dear life trying not to fall. I couldn’t help I was so worried. He was able to jump down with out harm. His response to me was “I hope you got a picture of that” and I said “Sorry I didn’t I was too worried about you!” He wasn’t satisfied. And did he stay off the ladder? NO! But he was more careful. After we picked for about 3 hours and filled two truck beds with oranges we left. When we got home Darrell picked up his pant leg and showed everyone his orange sized swelling on his leg from hitting the ladder as he jumped off the tree. Luckily thats all he got.
